Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Senior Joint Secretary General of BNP and Political Advisor to the Prime Minister, emphasized the need for a neutral administration. He stated that without neutrality and efficiency in the administration, chaos and corruption would prevail. He shared these views during an Independence Day discussion at North South University (NSU) on Thursday.
Rizvi noted that a weak state allows foreign powers to interfere in national affairs. He explained that Bangladesh’s independence is the result of long-term historical struggles. The liberation war was not just a nine-month conflict but a fight for self-determination. He highlighted the contributions of students, farmers, and soldiers in achieving freedom.
The Prime Minister’s advisor criticized the tendency to limit independence to one family or group. He claimed such narratives tarnish the true spirit of the nation. Rizvi observed that today’s youth are becoming more vocal against injustice and historical distortions. He defined true independence as having the right to vote and freedom of expression.
Regarding administrative roles, Rizvi warned against political divisions among civil servants. He stressed that merit-based recruitment is vital for a functional state. Looting of public funds and money laundering often occur when governance fails. He called for national unity on issues of sovereignty and national interest despite political differences.
The event was attended by MP Fazlur Rahman and NSU Board member Benajir Ahmed. NSU Vice Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury presided over the session. Speakers at the event honored the sacrifices of freedom fighters. They urged the new generation to uphold the ideals of the liberation war.
