  • The United States is preparing new economic sanctions targeting Iran and countries that help maintain its trade and economy. Tehran has responded by warning that it could halt oil supplies through the Persian Gulf if the economic pressure continues.

According to the US Treasury Department, tougher restrictions are being prepared against countries supporting Iran’s economy and trade. The US sanctions on Iran are aimed at further isolating Tehran from international commerce.

Iran’s security council has issued a strong response to the US move. Tehran warned that if the economic war does not stop, it may prevent oil from being exported through the Strait of Hormuz. The US sanctions on Iran could therefore create additional pressure on global energy markets.

Although direct military conflict remains temporarily halted, the US sanctions on Iran have raised fresh concerns over global oil prices and supply. Any disruption around the Strait of Hormuz could have wider consequences for international energy markets.

Pakistan, Qatar and Turkey are reportedly attempting to mediate between the two sides. The international community is closely monitoring whether the US sanctions on Iran will lead to further escalation or diplomatic efforts.
