বাংলাKate Zakaria has announced her departure from the role of US President Donald Trump’s White House spokesperson after just five days in the position. The brief tenure of Kate Zakaria has drawn attention to the administration’s communications team.
According to a Fox News report published Friday, October 16, Trump does not want to rush the appointment of her replacement. Earlier, while leaving the White House, he told reporters that he had asked Zakaria to reconsider stepping down.
Trump said he did not believe Zakaria should have to endure the pressure she was facing from the media. He encouraged her to think carefully about whether she wanted to remain in the role. However, Kate Zakaria ultimately announced her decision to leave.
Zakaria said she received a phone call last week offering her the position. She had succeeded Karoline Leavitt. Trump introduced her as a lawyer, but questions later emerged about whether she had passed the bar examination. In an interview with Fox News on Thursday, Zakaria acknowledged that she had not passed the bar exam.
Her five-day tenure is being compared with other short-lived appointments in the White House. During Trump’s first term, Anthony Scaramucci served as White House communications director for 10 days, twice as long as Kate Zakaria‘s reported tenure.
Al Jazeera correspondent Kimberly Halkett said the appointment and subsequent departure could create fresh problems for Trump as Republicans prepare for important midterm elections in November.
Halkett pointed to concerns about credibility and the handling of responsibilities as factors behind the departure. The episode could intensify scrutiny of the administration’s decisions at a politically sensitive time.
