বাংলাA Cumilla court has sentenced a man named Md Azad to death for killing his wife with an electric shock following a family dispute. The verdict in the Cumilla wife murder case was delivered on Tuesday, August 18.
Judge Mohammad Sultan Uddin Pradhan of the Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court in Cumilla announced the verdict at around 11:30am. The accused was present in the courtroom when the judgment was delivered.
According to the case details, Md Azad, son of Md Kabir Hossain of Basantapur village in Chauddagram, allegedly killed his wife Tania Begum on the night of July 27, 2023. Tania, a mother of three, was allegedly subjected to an electric shock after wires were attached to her hands and feet. The incident led to the Cumilla wife murder case.
Tania’s mother, Maya Begum, filed a murder case against her son-in-law at Chauddagram Police Station. Police subsequently investigated the incident and conducted an autopsy on the victim. Both the investigation and autopsy reports identified the death as a homicide.
The investigating officer later submitted a charge sheet against Azad. During the trial, the court examined witness testimony, cross-examinations, documents and other evidence before finding him guilty. The court then handed down the death sentence in the Cumilla wife murder case.
After the verdict, the plaintiff’s lawyer Md Enamul Haque Sarker and the victim’s relatives expressed satisfaction. They said the verdict had provided justice after a lengthy judicial process and called for its execution as soon as possible. The Cumilla wife murder case will now proceed through the applicable legal process.
