The investigation into the murder of retired schoolteacher Ganapati Chakraborty Jewel and his family in Rangpur has been transferred from Kotwali Police Station to the Detective Branch (DB).
Police said the investigating agency was changed to ensure a more transparent investigation and to submit the charge sheet quickly. The case documents and necessary information were handed over to Inspector Zinat Ali, the new investigating officer.
Following the transfer, the teacher murder case investigation will now be conducted under the supervision of the Detective Branch. Officials said a thorough investigation will be carried out to establish the facts of the case.
Gopinath Chakraborty, elder brother of the deceased Ganapati Chakraborty, filed the murder case on Sunday afternoon. Later that night, two arrested suspects were produced before the court, where they reportedly gave confessional statements.
Former investigating officer Milon Chatterjee said the suspects, Siddhartha and Mugdha, had expressed their willingness to provide confessional statements. They were subsequently presented before the court as part of the investigation process.
The new investigating officer will review all available evidence and documents before proceeding with further legal action. Authorities are now focused on completing the teacher murder case investigation and submitting the charge sheet as soon as possible.
The transfer is expected to bring greater scrutiny to the teacher murder case investigation and ensure that all relevant evidence is examined thoroughly.
