A 42-year-old man has been accused of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old child after allegedly taking the child to his pharmacy in Hatia, Noakhali. Locals detained the accused and handed him over to police.
The incident reportedly occurred around 9am on Sunday, August 23, at Adarsha Gram Bazar in Harani Union. The Hatia child abuse allegation has drawn local attention, while police are preparing for further legal action.
According to police and local sources, the accused, identified as Helal Uddin, previously worked as a schoolteacher before starting a pharmacy business at the local market. The Hatia child abuse allegation is now under police consideration.
Local residents also alleged that a similar complaint had previously been raised against him. However, those claims will need to be established through proper investigation. The Hatia child abuse allegation has also sparked discussion on social media.
The local Jamaat leader has denied that Helal Uddin is a Jamaat worker, while local sources have made different claims about his previous political involvement. Police said the Hatia child abuse allegation will be addressed through the legal process.
Hatia Police Station OC Kabir Hossain said the child’s mother is expected to file a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. The child is also expected to undergo a medical examination at Noakhali 250-bed General Hospital.
