বাংলাPolice say they have made significant progress in the investigation into the death of Ishayat Shahriar Aprotim, 13, the only son of Cumilla University Bengali Department Associate Professor Nahida Begum. Preliminary evidence suggests that the murder may have been linked to his mother’s iPhone.
The district police are scheduled to hold a press conference at noon on Sunday, September 20, to provide details of the investigation. Officials said CCTV footage reviewed after Aprotim murder showed a teenager near the main gate of Cumilla University with Aprotim.
The teenager was later detained and questioned. Based on information obtained during the questioning, police raided a house near the university on Saturday night and recovered Aprotim’s mother’s iPhone.
Another teenager has also been detained in connection with the case. Police are questioning those detained and examining the recovered evidence as part of the investigation into the Aprotim murder.
A district police official said investigators currently suspect that Aprotim may have been killed over the iPhone. However, the exact motive and the involvement of individuals are yet to be established conclusively through the investigation.
Police media officer and Additional Superintendent of Police Md Lutfur Rahman said details of the case would be presented at the scheduled press conference.
Aprotim went missing on Friday after leaving his rented home in the Gandhamati area of Kotbari, Cumilla, reportedly carrying his mother’s iPhone to take photographs with friends. He was a seventh-grade student at Border Guard Public School.
After he went missing, police and university authorities reviewed CCTV footage and searched different locations. His body was later recovered from an isolated area in the Lalmai Hills in Sananda village under Bijoypur Union of Sadar Dakshin upazila.
Police said further information about the Aprotim murder is emerging as investigators question the detained teenagers and examine the recovered evidence. The investigation is continuing to establish the exact circumstances and motive behind the killing.
