বাংলাNearly 15,000 suicide attempts have been recorded in Jessore over the past six years, according to data presented at a mental health awareness meeting.
Dr. Mousumi Binte Manik from the Jessore Civil Surgeon’s Office said that 14,516 suicide attempts were reported between 2020 and the present, resulting in 344 deaths. She described the trend as deeply concerning and stressed the importance of mental health awareness.
The meeting also highlighted the completion of a six-year community-based mental health project implemented by ADD International in Jessore, focusing on awareness campaigns, free mental health camps, first-aid training and school mental health programs.
Speakers emphasized that continued government and private-sector collaboration is essential to reduce suicide attempts and improve access to mental health services across the district.
