A record 4.7 million taxpayers submitted their income tax returns through the E-Return system during the 2025-2026 tax year, according to Bangladesh’s National Board of Revenue (NBR).
The NBR has also launched online income tax return filing for individual taxpayers for the new tax year. From now on, E-Return filing has been made mandatory for most regular individual taxpayers.
However, paper returns will still be allowed for senior citizens aged 65 and above, persons with disabilities, Bangladeshis living abroad, representatives of deceased taxpayers, foreign nationals working in Bangladesh and certain other special cases.
Taxpayers can submit their E-Return through the NBR portal and pay taxes using bank transfers, debit or credit cards, bKash, Rocket, Nagad and other digital payment methods. Tax certificates and acknowledgements will be available immediately after submission.
To encourage early compliance, the NBR announced a 5% tax rebate (up to Tk 25,000) for taxpayers who file their E-Return between July and September. Late filers after December will lose the incentive and may have to pay additional tax.
