বাংলাFour police personnel assigned to security duty on the Kurigram Express have been withdrawn following an allegation that a 42-year-old woman was raped in the train’s catering coach. Two separate investigation committees have also been formed to look into the incident.
Dulal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Santahar Railway Police Station, confirmed the withdrawal of the four personnel. They are Assistant Town Sub-Inspector (ATSI) Khokon Islam and constables Golam Mostofa, Fazle Rabbi and Ashikul Rahman.
According to the officer, the four were withdrawn and attached to the Pakshi Railway District Police over allegations of negligence of duty and involvement in the incident.
Mohammad Abdul Awal Bhuiyan, general manager of Bangladesh Railway’s western zone, said that two separate investigation committees have been formed by the railway authorities and railway police. The committees are expected to submit their reports within a week, after which action will be taken based on their findings.
The catering contract of the Kurigram Express has also already been cancelled, according to the railway official.
Details of the allegation
According to the case statement, the 42-year-old woman boarded the train from Dhaka on Monday while travelling to Sirajganj. Two police personnel assigned to security duty allegedly took her to the catering coach after accusing her of carrying drugs. The case alleges that she was sexually harassed there and that catering staff member Abu Bakkar Siddiq raped her.
The woman later filed a case at Santahar Railway Police Station. OC Dulal Uddin said the main accused, Abu Bakkar Siddiq, was arrested and sent to jail through a court order on Tuesday.
