বাংলাTabligh Jamaat Bangladesh has claimed that Nizamuddin followers did not give any written undertaking not to hold Ijtema at the Tongi grounds after 2025. The organization described reports about such an undertaking as misinformation and raised seven demands, including an early announcement of the next Ijtema date.
The demands were presented by Tabligh Jamaat Bangladesh associate Shafique Bin Naim at a press conference held at the Jatiya Press Club on Sunday (September 13). He said two representatives of the Nizamuddin followers had been assigned to take charge of materials at the Ijtema grounds, but they did not give any written undertaking not to hold Ijtema at Tongi in subsequent years.
According to Shafique Bin Naim, the Home Ministry’s letter dated February 9, 2025 also did not impose such a condition. A previous letter issued on January 27 had included a condition regarding not holding the next Ijtema, but the Nizamuddin followers did not agree to it and communicated their position in writing on January 28.
The organization also urged that no party should be declared responsible for the deaths and injuries during incidents at the Tongi grounds in 2018 and 2024 before the ongoing investigations are completed. It also proposed a fact-based discussion regarding allegations concerning Maulana Saad.
Among the demands is an immediate announcement of the date for the next World Ijtema for Maulana Saad’s followers at the Tongi grounds. The group also called for the grounds to be placed under government control and for both sides to receive equal access to hold Ijtema and religious programs.
Other demands include handing over Kakrail Mosque to Tabligh Jamaat Bangladesh, ensuring uninterrupted religious activities in mosques across the country, and taking legal action against those spreading misinformation about the undertaking.
The group also demanded investigations into allegations against five individuals associated with the opposing faction and verification of claims made about Maulana Saad. Representatives at the press conference said they were ready for a reasoned, evidence-based discussion with critics.
