Police in Dasmina, Patuakhali, have rescued an 18-month-old child after allegations that his father sold him for Tk 100,000 and later bought a new iPhone. The child Musa rescue has drawn widespread attention in Bangladesh.
The child, Musa, was rescued around 10pm on Sunday, August 30, and was later handed over to his grandparents.
According to local and police sources, the accused father, Maruf Munshi, took Musa from his grandmother on Saturday morning, saying that he was taking the child out. When he did not return home, family members began searching for them.
During subsequent communication, Maruf allegedly admitted that he had sold the child for Tk 100,000. After the incident became public, police launched an operation for the child Musa rescue.
Police detained Maruf and questioned him about the allegations. Based on information obtained during the investigation, officers traced the location where the child had reportedly been kept.
The child was later brought to Dasmina Police Station from Charbiswas Union in Galachipa. Police said their operation made the child Musa rescue possible.
Dasmina Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Atikul Islam said Musa was safely recovered and handed over to his grandfather and grandmother in the presence of the উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা. The child Musa rescue has brought relief to the family as the investigation continues.
