He described the event as one of the most brutal chapters in the history of the freedom-seeking nation.
History of Operation Searchlight and the Armed Resistance
During the black night of March 25, the Pakistani occupation forces launched ‘Operation Searchlight’ against unarmed civilians. They targeted Dhaka University, Pilkhana, and Rajarbagh Police Lines, killing teachers and intellectuals indiscriminately. The PM mentioned that the March 25 genocide was a pre-planned massacre that remains a subject of historical research today. He specifically highlighted the formal armed resistance initiated by the 8th East Bengal Regiment in Chattogram.
Commitment to Building a Democratic and Self-Reliant Nation
PM Tarique Rahman urged the current and future generations to understand the significance of this day. He called for unity to establish equality, human dignity, and social justice in the country. Reflecting on how the March 25 genocide was a pre-planned massacre, he emphasized the need for a self-reliant democratic Bangladesh. The Prime Minister concluded his message by praying for the forgiveness of the departed souls of all martyrs.
