বাংলাPolice have reported 15,717 general diaries (GDs) related to missing children in Bangladesh between January and July 2026. Of them, 13,679 children have been rescued or returned to their families, while 2,038 remain missing.
According to Police Headquarters, nearly 87 percent of the children reported missing during the period have been found. The figures on missing child GDs were released in a statement issued by Police Headquarters.
For children aged zero to nine, 474 GDs were filed during the seven-month period. Police said 406 of them were rescued, while 68 remain missing. For those aged 10 to 17, there were 15,243 missing child GDs, with 13,273 children rescued and 1,970 still missing.
Police said younger children often go missing after getting lost in unfamiliar places, being unable to provide their names or addresses, or going elsewhere while returning home alone. Among older children and teenagers, reasons include family disputes, academic pressure, emotional distress, peer influence and a desire for greater independence.
Police Headquarters also noted that the introduction of online GD services has made it easier for people to file general diaries, contributing to an increase in reported cases, including missing child GDs. Missing-related GDs totaled 17,808 in 2023, 16,414 in 2024 and 22,550 in 2025.
Authorities said it is important to consider not only the number of missing children reported but also how many have subsequently been rescued or returned home. Police therefore verified the missing child GDs data through the relevant local police stations.
Police data shows that among the 15,717 children covered by missing child GDs during the first seven months of 2026, 13,679 have been found or returned to their families. Efforts continue to locate the remaining 2,038 children.
