বাংলাContinuous heavy rainfall and upstream flooding have caused extensive Kurigram crop damage across all nine upazilas of the district. Around 500 hectares of farmland were affected, including nearly 150 hectares where crops were completely destroyed.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension, about 2,752 farmers have suffered losses worth nearly Tk 314.81 crore. The worst-hit crops include pointed gourd, bottle gourd, pumpkin, teasel gourd, eggplant, chili, bitter gourd, and cucumber.
This Kharif season, crops were cultivated on 32,680 hectares of land. However, adverse weather damaged 499 hectares, resulting in significant Kurigram crop damage and leaving many farmers unable to recover their production costs.
Agricultural officials said field-level officers are assisting affected farmers with technical advice. Government support will be provided if relief allocations are approved.
Experts say climate-related disasters are increasing agricultural risks, making swift recovery measures essential to reduce the impact of Kurigram crop damage on local farmers.
