Gold prices have risen further in global markets as the US dollar weakened and expectations of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike next month declined.
According to Reuters, spot gold rose 0.5 percent on Monday (August 17) to $4,398.58 per ounce. Gold prices had already reached a two-month high last week.
At the same time, US gold futures for December delivery increased 0.4 percent to $4,455.50 per ounce. The dollar index, which measures the US currency against major global currencies, fell 0.2 percent.
A weaker dollar makes gold relatively more affordable for buyers using other currencies. This has provided additional support to global gold prices.
Other precious metals also gained. Silver rose 1.5 percent to $65.61 per ounce, platinum increased 0.7 percent to $1,759.72, while palladium gained 1.6 percent to $1,333.25 per ounce.
In Bangladesh, the current price of 22-carat gold, including VAT, is Tk 236,779 per bhori. The price of 21-carat gold is Tk 226,165, while 18-carat gold costs Tk 194,206 per bhori. Gold under the traditional method is priced at Tk 158,630 per bhori.
