  • Many people spend a large part of the day in air-conditioned rooms to stay comfortable during extreme heat. However, suddenly moving from a cold AC environment into intense heat and sunlight may cause various health problems.

A sudden change in temperature can cause symptoms such as sore throat, dry cough, headache, fatigue and dizziness. After spending a long time in a cold environment, the body has to adjust quickly to the outdoor heat.

According to health experts, health problems from going from AC to heat may include dehydration, weakness and dizziness, while severe heat exposure may contribute to serious heat-related illness. People who frequently travel between air-conditioned spaces and hot outdoor conditions should be particularly cautious.

People with asthma, allergies or breathing difficulties may also experience increased discomfort. Air conditioning reduces humidity, and excessively dry air can contribute to dryness in the throat and respiratory tract, causing symptoms such as dry cough and sore throat.

To reduce health problems from going from AC to heat, avoid stepping directly from an AC room into intense sunlight. Spending a few minutes in a moderate-temperature area can allow the body to adjust gradually.

Staying hydrated is important during hot weather. Water, coconut water, lemonade and other suitable fluids can help maintain hydration and electrolyte balance.

When going outside, lightweight and loose clothing can provide greater comfort. Using an umbrella, hat or scarf can also help reduce direct exposure to sunlight.

After returning from extreme heat, it may be more comfortable to drink water at a normal temperature rather than consuming ice-cold water immediately.

If severe dizziness, unusual weakness, confusion or other concerning symptoms develop, prompt medical attention should be sought.
