  • A dairy farm in Santhia, Pabna, has been temporarily sealed after authorities accused it of producing artificial milk by mixing chemicals and jelly-like substances. The owner, Md. Manik, was fined Tk 200,000.

The action was taken early Sunday (September 6) following a tip-off. A team led by Md. Mahmud Hasan Rony, assistant director of the Pabna district office of the Directorate of National Consumers’ Right Protection, conducted the operation at the facility in Nagdemra.

During the raid, authorities seized around 2,500 liters of adulterated milk in Pabna and two barrels of harmful jelly. The seized products were destroyed at the scene.

According to the consumer rights authorities, jelly was allegedly used to artificially increase the volume and thickness of the milk, while hydrogen peroxide was reportedly used to keep it fresh for longer. The owner was fined under the Consumers’ Right Protection Act, 2009, and the facility was temporarily sealed.

District sanitary inspector Md. Mahmud Alam and a team from the Ansar Battalion assisted in the operation.

Health experts warn that milk containing harmful substances can pose health risks. Regular consumption of such products may contribute to various health problems, making food safety and effective monitoring important.

The action against the dairy farm highlights continued concerns over adulterated milk in Pabna and the need for stronger enforcement to protect consumers.
