বাংলাA suspected murder case in Pirgacha upazila of Rangpur has taken a dramatic turn after police arrested the victim’s brother and sister-in-law following an autopsy report that confirmed death by strangulation. The victim, 20-year-old Nusrat Jahan Nupur, had initially been reported as having died under unnatural circumstances, but forensic findings led investigators to treat the case as a homicide.
According to police, Nupur died at her parents’ residence on February 18. Officers recovered the body and sent it to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. At that time, an unnatural death case was filed while investigators waited for the forensic report to determine the exact cause of death.
Several weeks later, the forensic examination concluded that Nupur had died from asphyxiation caused by strangulation. Following the report, investigators reopened the case, gathered additional evidence, and identified several close family members as suspects. Acting on the findings, police arrested Nupur’s brother, Khalid Hasan Milu, and his wife, Dilruba Akter Disha, from their residence during a late-night operation.
On Friday morning, the victim’s husband, Ahad Ali, filed a murder case accusing Nupur’s brother, sister-in-law, mother, and aunt of involvement in the alleged killing. According to the complaint, Nupur had married Ahad Ali for love, but her family strongly opposed the marriage. It is alleged that she was later called back to her parents’ home on the pretext of her father’s illness and pressured to divorce her husband.
The complaint further alleges that when Nupur refused to end the marriage, she was subjected to physical and mental abuse. Investigators are examining allegations that she was eventually strangled to death and that the incident was initially portrayed as a suicide. However, the autopsy findings contradicted that claim, leading investigators to pursue the case as a homicide.
Officer-in-Charge AKM Khondokar Muhibbul Islam confirmed that the suspects have been arrested and are being questioned. Police will seek remand to continue the investigation and gather additional evidence.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, and a charge sheet will be submitted after reviewing all forensic evidence, witness statements, and other relevant materials. Legal action will be taken against anyone found responsible.
