বাংলাCricket Australia has approved plans to allow private investment in the Big Bash League (BBL) and Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), marking a major change in Australian domestic cricket.
The historic decision was formally announced at a press conference at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Tuesday (September 8). Private investment in the Big Bash is being viewed as one of the biggest changes to the structure of Australia’s domestic cricket.
The Guardian reported that the decision comes just months after the controversial proposal to merge the Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades.
Cricket Australia chairman Mike Baird said control over the international schedule, player availability, BBL salaries, salary caps and branding proposals would remain with Australian cricket.
Baird said opening the door to private investment in the Big Bash was a considered step aimed at strengthening and securing the long-term future of the game. He added that the decision followed months of analysis, discussions and collaboration.
He also thanked everyone involved, saying the new approach was intended to secure the future of cricket in Australia while making the Big Bash stronger. The move toward private investment in the Big Bash is expected to usher in a new chapter for Australian domestic cricket.
