Bangladesh ranks 13th among the world’s most climate-risk vulnerable countries, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintu told parliament.
The minister provided the information in a written response during the question-and-answer session of parliament’s third session on Sunday (August 30). He said rising global temperatures are increasing the risk of heat-related illness and deaths. Bangladesh climate risk remains a major concern amid accelerating global warming.
According to the Global Climate Risk Index 2026, Bangladesh ranks 13th among the countries most vulnerable to climate risks. To address Bangladesh climate risk, the country has prepared a National Adaptation Plan under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Bangladesh has also submitted its Third Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0) to the UNFCCC. Under the plan, the country aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 6.39% unconditionally by 2035, with a further 13.92% conditional reduction target subject to international support.
The government has also begun preparing a Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategy and developed a Carbon Market Framework. These initiatives are intended to address Bangladesh climate risk while supporting climate finance, investment, and environmentally sustainable projects.
