Non-MPO Teachers Seek Justice Under New Leadership of Education Minister and MP Selim Bhuiyan
The long-standing MPO Enlistment Demand has gained new momentum as Principal Md. Abdus Salam, Central Coordinator of the Combined Non-MPO Unity Council, issued a heartfelt appeal on social media. Addressing the pioneer of education, Education Minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Hoque Milan, and Member of Parliament and teacher leader Principal Selim Bhuiyan, Salam highlighted the dire situation of teachers who have been working without pay for over two decades. He expressed firm confidence that under the leadership of Dr. Milan, who previously revolutionized the education sector by eliminating cheating in public exams, the MPO Enlistment Demand will finally be met.
In his statement, Principal Salam recalled the struggle for the MPO Enlistment Demand during the interim government’s tenure, where a continuous 87-day sit-in program was supported by Principal Selim Bhuiyan and senior BNP leaders like Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. He noted that the previous fascist regime politically victimized institutions established during the BNP-led alliance’s era, depriving them of MPO status while favoring Awami-affiliated institutions. Now, with the BNP government in power, teachers expect a swift resolution to the MPO Enlistment Demand to save these crumbling institutions.
The Role of Teacher Leader Principal Selim Bhuiyan
Highlighting the historical bond, Salam mentioned that Non-MPO leaders played a pivotal role in advocating for Principal Selim Bhuiyan’s MP nomination. Having supported him actively in the Homna-Titas constituency, the teachers now look up to him as their voice in Parliament to fulfill the MPO Enlistment Demand. “We have served for years without salaries; our families are living in inhumane conditions. We now demand the immediate MPO enlistment of all recognized non-MPO institutions under the dual leadership of Dr. Milan and Bhuiyan Sir,” Salam added.
The MPO Enlistment Demand is seen as a test for the new education policy of the current administration. Thousands of teachers remain optimistic that their years of unpaid service will finally be recognized, ensuring the survival of rural educational infrastructure.
