A 10-day free eye checkup camp has begun for teachers, students, officers and employees of Rajshahi University (RU). Organized by Grameen Eye Hospital Rajshahi with support from the university authorities, the camp will continue from September 20 to October 4. Services will be available from 9:00am to 4:00pm in front of different academic buildings across the campus.
Participants will receive free eye checkup and consultation from doctors. Necessary eye tests will also be provided free of charge. In addition, students will receive a 10 percent discount on the purchase of eyeglasses.
According to the schedule, the camp will be held at Rabindra Bhaban on September 20, Syed Ismail Hossain Siraji Bhaban on September 21, Shahidullah Arts Building on September 22, Momtazuddin Bhaban on September 24, Satyendranath Bose Science Building on September 27, Jabir Ibn Hayyan Science Building on September 28, Jagadish Chandra Bose Science Building on September 29, Jamal Nazrul Islam Science Building on September 30, Agriculture Building on October 1 and Zainul Abedin Fine Arts Building on October 4.
Mahima Islam, a 2024-25 student of the Marketing Department, said the doctors provided attentive service and took sufficient time to examine her eyes and explain the necessary information. She said receiving free eye checkup and medical advice on campus was convenient for students and helped save both time and money.
Jisan Hossain, a 2023-24 student of the Folklore Department, said students frequently use mobile phones, laptops and other electronic devices, which can contribute to various eye problems. As academic schedules often make it difficult to visit doctors outside the campus, he described such an initiative as beneficial for students.
Mirajur Rahman, manager of Grameen Eye Hospital Rajshahi, said the 10-day campaign would provide free eye checkup and consultation in front of 10 academic buildings. Discounts on medicines and a 10 percent discount on eyeglasses are also being offered. He said more than 300 students had received services during the first half of the opening day.
He added that the hospital also provides services at various institutions across Rajshahi. Students or others found to have serious eye conditions will be referred to the hospital’s main facility, where treatment will be available at special discounts.
