Verdict Delivered: 10-Year Sentence for Faisal Karim in Arms Case
On Thursday (April 9, 2026), Judge Mahmudul Mohsin of the Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court delivered the judgment in the Faisal Karim Arms Case. Faisal Karim, also known by his aliases Rahul and Daud, was found guilty of possessing illegal firearms and ammunition. Since the convict is currently absconding, the court has issued an arrest warrant against him. This verdict comes shortly after the conclusion of arguments last Sunday. Faisal Karim is notably the main accused in the high-profile murder case of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, the convener of Inqilab Mancha.
The history of the Faisal Karim Arms Case dates back to November 7, 2024, when RAB-2 conducted a raid on a flat in the Baitul Aman Housing Society in Adabor. During the operation, Faisal was apprehended while attempting to flee. A search of his residence led to the recovery of a foreign pistol and four rounds of ammunition. Following the raid, RAB Havildar Mashiur Rahman filed a case under the Arms Act. The investigation revealed that Faisal was a notorious figure involved in organized extortion, narcotics trade, and land grabbing, using illegal weapons to maintain his criminal influence in the locality.
Current Status and International Arrest
The legal proceedings of the Faisal Karim Arms Case saw testimony from 13 out of 14 witnesses. Although he was on bail until November 17 of last year, Faisal disappeared following the murder of Osman Hadi. Recent reports indicate that he was arrested in India last month while hiding from Bangladeshi authorities. The court emphasized that such strict sentencing is necessary to curb organized terrorism and illegal arms possession. The conviction adds another layer of legal pressure on Faisal as he awaits trial for the murder of the student leader.
