বাংলাFive athletes from Uganda and Pakistan have been reported missing after the conclusion of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Police Scotland confirmed they received reports that several competitors failed to board their scheduled flights home following the Commonwealth Games.
Four Ugandan boxers did not appear at the airport before their scheduled departure on Tuesday, while one Pakistani boxer also failed to board a flight to Karachi. Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the missing athletes after the Commonwealth Games.
Before the event ended, one Ugandan boxer reportedly told local media that he intended to seek political asylum in the United Kingdom. However, officials have not released the identities of the five missing athletes or confirmed whether formal asylum applications have been submitted following the Commonwealth Games.
Similar incidents have occurred after previous editions of the event. Following the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, Australian authorities reported that around 190 participants applied for political asylum.
More than 3,000 athletes from 74 nations competed in this year’s event in Glasgow. The disappearance of several competitors after the Commonwealth Games has once again raised concerns over athlete movements and asylum claims.
