Fisheries and Livestock State Minister Sultan Salahuddin Tuku said that supporters of authoritarian rule are still conspiring to destabilize Bangladesh. Speaking at a reception for July uprising martyrs’ families and fighters in Tangail, Sultan Salahuddin Tuku’s statement emphasized the importance of national unity.
He said the July uprising belongs to all Bangladeshis and warned that unnecessary instability would only benefit forces opposed to democracy. According to Sultan Salahuddin Tuku’s statement, all pro-democracy groups should remain united against fascism.
Referring to the BNP’s role in democratic movements, Tuku claimed the party has consistently stood for democracy. He also mentioned those who disappeared or suffered during the long anti-authoritarian movement. Sultan Salahuddin Tuku’s statement called for preserving the spirit of the July uprising.
The minister also promised support for employment opportunities for July fighters and said he would work to ensure free medical treatment for officially recognized cardholders in Tangail.
Sultan Salahuddin Tuku’s statement has renewed discussion on political unity, democracy and protecting the ideals of the July uprising.
