Abrar Faiaz, the younger brother of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad, has shared details about Robin’s alleged role in the murder case in a Facebook post. Citing statements made by defendants under Section 164, Faiaz described allegations involving suspicion against Abrar, instructions to beat him and remarks about his condition as it deteriorated.
In a post published on Friday evening, October 9, Faiaz referred to Robin’s own statement and the statement of fellow defendant Ifti Mosharraf Sokal. According to the post, Robin wrote in a Messenger group associated with students from batches 2015 and 2016 at Sher-e-Bangla Hall on October 4, 2019, calling for Abrar to be investigated and expelled violently if he was found to be a member of Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Faiaz’s post says Robin also shared a screenshot of Abrar’s Facebook comment in the group. On the night of October 6, Robin allegedly went to room 2011 at the hall and watched a video found on Abrar’s phone. Citing Robin’s statement, the post says he then slapped Abrar. Other defendants, including Meftahul Islam Zion and Anik Sarker, were also accused of assaulting him.
Citing Sokal’s statement, Faiaz wrote that Robin allegedly labelled Abrar a Shibir member and called for him to be beaten, despite Abrar’s denial. The post also says Robin instructed others to obtain names of other students at BUET who might be associated with the organisation.
According to Faiaz’s account of the statements, Robin later returned to room 2011 and saw Abrar being assaulted. The post alleges that Anik Sarker struck Abrar with a cricket stump, while Ifti Mosharraf Sokal and Mujahidur Rahman also assaulted him.
Faiaz further wrote that Robin called other students and directed them to seek names of other alleged Shibir members from Abrar. The post also refers to a phone conversation with Russell and a statement that “Munna Bhai” was coming from 200 kilometres away for Abrar.
Citing the statements, Faiaz alleged that Robin described Abrar’s worsening condition as “drama.” The post says Abrar was later moved to another room. Robin reportedly stated that he went to Mehedi Hasan Russell’s room to discuss the incident and that Russell instructed them to hand Abrar over to the police.
The post also says security staff were asked to call an ambulance and contact the hall provosts. According to Faiaz’s account of Sokal’s statement, some students said Abrar was fine despite his serious condition. A doctor eventually declared Abrar dead.
These details are presented in Faiaz’s Facebook post as accounts drawn from defendants’ statements. The allegations and quoted accounts have not been independently verified for this article.
