Anaya Bangar has received formal clearance to play women’s cricket after undergoing gender transition. Cricket Australia has approved her participation in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). Her next ambition is to represent India and win a World Cup for the country. Anaya Bangar says winning the World Cup for India is her ultimate dream.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not granted her permission to play in India’s women’s cricket setup. Following approval from Cricket Australia, Anaya spoke about her ambitions in an interview with India Today and expressed hope that the BCCI would consider her case seriously.
Discussing her cricketing ambitions, Anaya Bangar said representing India and winning the World Cup remains her biggest goal. She hopes to receive an opportunity to play for the Indian women’s team in the future.
Anaya also said the BCCI’s response after her transition had been deeply disappointing. According to her, the board remained silent from the beginning. She hopes India will eventually develop a policy that addresses the participation of transgender cricketers.
Anaya Bangar said she had understood that transitioning could potentially force her away from cricket. However, Cricket Australia’s approval has opened a new opportunity for her to continue pursuing the sport and her ambition of playing at the international level.
