Abdul Awal Mintoo Emphasizes the Inseparable Link Between Stable Politics and a Strong Economy
Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo has expressed concerns that Bangladesh could witness another mass uprising led by Gen Z (Generation Z) if significant Politics and Economy Reform is not implemented soon. Speaking at an event organized by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Bangladesh in Banani on Saturday (April 4), the minister highlighted that poverty and inequality are the direct results of failing political and economic structures. He noted that the relationship between the two is like “twin brothers,” where one cannot thrive without the other.
The Politics and Economy Reform discussion took place during the book launch of “Made in Nepal: Lessons in Business Building from the Land of Everest,” authored by Nepal’s sole billionaire and Chairman of CG Corp Global, Binod Chaudhary. Minister Mintoo pointed out that both Bangladesh and Nepal are recent examples of how public frustration leads to street protests when governance fails to address economic disparity. He warned that unless the new reality is met with genuine Politics and Economy Reform, the youth may once again take to the streets to demand accountability.
Trilateral Cooperation and Economic Growth
During the same event, Binod Chaudhary shared his insights on regional Politics and Economy Reform, suggesting that geographical proximity should be viewed as an opportunity rather than a political hurdle. He emphasized the need for bilateral and trilateral cooperation between Bangladesh, Nepal, and India to ensure mutual interests are met. Chaudhary noted that while economic ties between Nepal and Bangladesh have been stagnant for 30 years, the recent start of electricity exports from Nepal to Bangladesh marks a new era of cooperation.
Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo concluded by stating that good politics is the only foundation for a good economy, and vice-versa. Without these reforms, the cycle of poverty and social unrest will continue.
