বাংলাJust a year and a half ago, Younes Ebnoutalib was playing in Germany’s fourth-tier Regionalliga. Now, the 23-year-old forward has received his first call-up to the Germany national team after a rapid rise through the football ranks.
Two days after receiving the biggest news of his career, Younes Ebnoutalib scored against Freiburg in the Bundesliga, adding another chapter to his remarkable rise.
Born in Frankfurt on September 13, 2003, Ebnoutalib comes from a sporting family. His father, Faisal Ebnoutalib, was born in Nador, Morocco, moved to Frankfurt in 1990 and later became a German citizen.
Faisal was also an athlete and won a silver medal for Germany in taekwondo at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Younes’ German mother played handball. He learned taekwondo from his father as a child before eventually choosing football as his profession.
Younes Ebnoutalib has described his father and Cristiano Ronaldo as his biggest role models. He has also spoken about learning his strong work ethic from his father.
His route into professional football was far from straightforward. After playing for several youth teams in Frankfurt, he also spent time with Perugia in Italy. During the 2024-25 season, he scored six goals in 19 Regionalliga appearances for FC Gießen.
He then moved to SV Elversberg and made his mark in Germany’s second tier. Toward the end of 2025, he scored 12 goals in 17 matches and attracted growing attention.
In January, he joined hometown club Eintracht Frankfurt. His Bundesliga start has been impressive, with four goals and two assists in his first four matches.
Against Freiburg, Younes Ebnoutalib scored after 10 minutes to put Frankfurt ahead. The match eventually ended in a 2-2 draw.
Ebnoutalib also had the option of representing Morocco internationally. He played for Morocco’s under-15 team in 2018, but he has now chosen Germany at senior level.
After his Germany call-up was announced, a fan asked what he was most excited about regarding the national team. Younes Ebnoutalib gave a brief answer: “Everything.”
From Germany’s fourth tier to the national team in just 18 months, Younes Ebnoutalib has quickly become one of the country’s emerging young forwards.
