This move aims to reduce the pressure on the energy market, minimize fuel consumption, and alleviate the severe traffic congestion in urban areas. With countries like Pakistan and the Philippines already taking emergency measures, Bangladesh is being urged to adopt tech-driven solutions to prevent a deeper crisis.
Global Fuel Crisis and Its Impact on Education
The conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran has significantly disrupted the global energy market. In Pakistan, the price of octane has soared to 322 PKR per liter, while the Philippines has declared an emergency to manage the shortage. In this context, maintaining online classes in educational institutions could be a strategic buffer. Experts believe that without proactive and integrated steps, the reopening of schools and offices could pose a massive challenge to the country’s energy reserves and urban mobility.
Strategic Planning and Past Lessons
Dr. Manzoor Ahmed, Emeritus Professor at BRAC University, emphasized the need for a well-thought-out plan. While acknowledging that the COVID-19 experience revealed significant learning gaps in online education, he suggested a hybrid model.
“The ministry should prepare a plan based on past experiences, considering adjusted school timings and integrated online-offline teaching methods to save energy during this emergency,”
he remarked. A coordinated effort between government and private sectors is now essential to navigate these uncertain times.
