Police in Manikganj have recovered the dismembered body of a 14-year-old schoolgirl named Maria, six days after she went missing. The body was found on Sunday afternoon in a bamboo grove near a graveyard in the Chandannagar area of Singair upazila.
Maria was an eighth-grade student of Sahrail High School and the daughter of an expatriate living in the Lakshmipur Dewanbari area. According to family members, she had been missing since June 15.
Relatives claimed that an incident involving Maria and a tenth-grade student at school had recently drawn attention. Following the matter, the school reportedly issued transfer certificates to both students.
Afterward, Maria left her mobile phone at home and went missing. Despite extensive searches by family members and local residents, no trace of her was found for several days.
On Sunday, locals discovered a school bag and human remains in a bamboo grove and immediately informed police. Officers arrived at the scene and recovered the body.
The body has been sent to Manikganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Police have taken a tenth-grade student into custody for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities stated that evidence is being collected to determine the circumstances of the death and identify anyone involved. Further details are expected after the investigation progresses.
