বাংলাPrime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged Malaysia to reopen its labor market for Bangladeshi workers as soon as possible. He made the request during a joint press conference with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya on Monday.
The Bangladeshi premier said he requested Malaysia to consider recruiting more Bangladeshi workers and accelerate the reopening process of the labor market. He also raised issues related to the regularization of undocumented workers and the possible repatriation of detained Bangladeshis.
According to the Prime Minister, both countries agreed that worker recruitment procedures should be transparent, fair, and affordable. Such measures would reduce the influence of intermediaries and lower migration costs for workers.
Earlier, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim welcomed Tarique Rahman with a red-carpet reception at the Perdana Putra complex in Putrajaya. The two leaders later held a bilateral meeting to discuss various issues of mutual interest.
During the talks, both sides discussed labor migration, trade, investment, education, energy cooperation, and ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations.
Tarique Rahman described Malaysia as a trusted and longstanding partner of Bangladesh. He emphasized that the strong people-to-people ties between the two countries continue to serve as the foundation of their friendship.
Expressing gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by the Malaysian government and people, the Prime Minister said the visit would further deepen cooperation and friendship between the two countries.
