  • Saudi security forces arrested 14,542 expatriates across the country in one week over alleged violations of residency, border security and labor laws, according to the Saudi Ministry of Interior.

The arrests were made during joint operations conducted from August 6 to 12. Nearly 13,000 people were also deported from Saudi Arabia during the same period.

According to the ministry, 7,216 people were arrested for residency law violations, 3,843 for border security violations and 3,483 for labor law violations.

Authorities also detained 1,457 people while they were allegedly attempting to enter Saudi Arabia illegally. Of them, 67 percent were Ethiopian nationals, 32 percent were Yemeni nationals and 1 percent were from other countries.

The latest figures highlight the scale of expatriate arrests in Saudi Arabia as authorities continue enforcement operations against immigration and labor law violations.

Another 19 people were detained while allegedly attempting to leave Saudi Arabia illegally.

The Saudi Ministry of Interior warned that helping people enter the country illegally, transporting or sheltering them, or providing other forms of assistance could result in up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to one million Saudi riyals. Vehicles and properties used for such activities may also be confiscated.
