বাংলাThe Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council has demanded a judicial inquiry into the murder of retired teacher Ganapati Chakraborty and his family in Machuapara, Rangpur. The organization also called for a government statement in parliament. The Rangpur teacher family murder inquiry demand was made at a rally following a human chain and protest march in front of the National Press Club on Saturday, August 29.
Leaders of the organization said they believe a particular group may have carried out the killings to serve its own interests. They alleged that efforts were being made to conceal or divert attention from the actual circumstances and questioned the credibility of the police account of the incident.
The leaders strongly condemned the killings and called for a government statement in parliament. They also demanded that a judicial inquiry identify the actual perpetrators and ensure exemplary punishment. They emphasized the need for an impartial Rangpur teacher family murder inquiry.
Speakers said the incident has created fear not only among minorities in Rangpur but also among minority communities across Bangladesh. They expressed concern that such incidents could encourage minorities to leave the country and damage Bangladesh’s image internationally.
Earlier, the organization held a human chain under a banner carrying the slogan questioning the circumstances of the Rangpur killings and the way forward for protecting minorities amid ongoing communal violence. A protest march involving more than 50 people later moved through nearby streets before ending at the National Press Club. The Rangpur teacher family murder inquiry remained a central demand of the program.
