President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid their deep respects at the National Memorial in Savar today. The ceremony marked the 55th Independence Day and National Day of Bangladesh. They arrived at the memorial at 6:00 AM on Thursday to honor the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War. A smartly turned-out contingent from the Army, Navy, and Air Force gave a formal state salute during the event.
Wreath Laying and Tributes to National Leaders on Independence Day
After the state ceremony, the Prime Minister laid another wreath alongside his cabinet members. Following the National Memorial visit, the PM’s convoy headed towards the capital to pay respects at the mazar of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and former PM Khaleda Zia.
These tributes are a core part of the annual national program to remember the founders and heroes of the sovereign nation.
National Parade Ground and PM’s Message to the Nation
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and President Mohammed Shahabuddin are scheduled to attend the National Parade Ground for the parade ceremony at 9:45 AM. In a special message, the Prime Minister extended his heartfelt greetings to all Bangladeshis at home and abroad. He emphasized that March 26 is the most glorious and historical day in the national life of Bangladesh, achieved through immense sacrifice.
