Bangladesh has recorded nearly 4.7 million online income tax submissions through the E-Return system during the 2025-26 tax year, according to the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
From Wednesday, the NBR officially launched online filing for the new tax year, making E-Return mandatory for most individual taxpayers.
Senior citizens aged 65 and above, persons with disabilities, Bangladeshis living abroad, representatives of deceased taxpayers, and foreign nationals working in Bangladesh are exempt from mandatory E-Return filing.
Taxpayers can submit E-Return forms and pay taxes through bank transfer, debit or credit cards, bKash, Rocket, and Nagad. Tax certificates and acknowledgements will be available instantly after submission.
To encourage digital filing, the NBR announced a 5% tax incentive (up to Tk 25,000) for eligible taxpayers submitting E-Return between July and September.
