বাংলাWriter, journalist and activist Rayhan Ahmed Tamim has been appointed Joint General Secretary of the central committee of Jatiya Jubo Shakti, the youth wing of the National Citizen Party (NCP). The appointment was announced in a notice signed by the organisation’s central convener Advocate Md Tarikul Islam and General Secretary Engineer Forhad Sohel on Wednesday night, October 7.
Following the appointment, the organisation’s leaders welcomed Tamim to the committee through social media posts. Several party activists and supporters also congratulated him on his new role.
Tamim previously worked as a member of the central media cell of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. He was also active during the July uprising and was reportedly arrested during the movement before being released later.
Alongside his political activism, Tamim has been involved in journalism and writing for several years. He has reportedly been writing for national media outlets for around nine years, with features published in newspapers and online platforms including Amar Desh, Samakal and Jago News.
Professionally, he works as a public relations, branding and marketing expert. He is also the founder and chief executive officer of a PR agency. His family home is in Hansara village of Sreenagar upazila in Munshiganj.
Speaking about his decision to become active in politics again, Tamim said he remained indirectly connected to politics in his thoughts even after the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement’s committee was dissolved. He said the opportunity to work with young people was a key reason behind joining Jatiya Jubo Shakti.
He also expressed particular interest in working with teenagers and young people in his home district of Munshiganj. According to Tamim, being involved with a political organisation could provide additional opportunities to work with young people.
