The event is traditionally held in Paris, France. This year, however, France Football has chosen London to honor Sir Stanley Matthews, the first-ever Ballon d’Or winner in football history.
The final nomination lists for several categories are being announced on Tuesday, September 8. According to Goal.com, the nominees for the Men’s Coach of the Year award are Mikel Arteta, Luis de la Fuente, Unai Emery, Vincent Kompany and Luis Enrique.
The nominees for the Women’s Coach of the Year award are Jonathan Giraldez, Andree Jeglertz, Nils Nielsen, Pere Romeu and Elena Sadiku. The list highlights the strong presence of Spanish coaches among the Coach of the Year nominees.
Five clubs have been nominated for the Men’s Club of the Year award: Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Bodo/Glimt, Flamengo and Paris Saint-Germain. In the women’s category, the nominees are Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Club America, Manchester City and Olympique Lyonnais.
Five clubs have been shortlisted in each of the men’s and women’s categories. Meanwhile, the Coach of the Year nominees include prominent figures from some of Europe’s leading football nations.
The winners will be announced in London on October 26. The Coach of the Year nominees and club shortlists have already generated significant interest among football fans ahead of the ceremony.
