  • Former India fast-bowling coach Bharat Arun believes the national team door should not have been closed so quickly for Mohammed Shami. He feels the experienced pacer still has plenty to offer India.

Shami last played for India in the 2025 Champions Trophy. He took five wickets against Bangladesh and three in the semifinal. However, Mohammed Shami has remained outside India’s national squad since the final.

Despite his absence from the national team, the right-arm pacer has continued to perform in domestic cricket. He was Bengal’s second-highest wicket-taker in the latest Ranji Trophy season and also impressed in the Syed Mushtaq Ali and Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Bharat Arun said age should not become an issue when a player continues to perform. He believes Shami’s experience, ability and competitive spirit could still be valuable for the Indian team.

Mohammed Shami has also shown strong form recently. He returned to competitive cricket through the Duleep Trophy and took five wickets in the semifinal. Ishan Kishan also praised Shami’s intensity and approach to the game.
