বাংলাThere is no fertilizer shortage in Bangladesh, Agriculture and Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid has said. He stated that the country imports 1.5 million tonnes more fertilizer than its annual demand. Anyone creating an artificial fertilizer shortage to raise prices will face action, he warned.
The minister made the remarks on Saturday, August 29, while speaking at a meeting with officials from departments under the Agriculture and Fisheries and Livestock ministries at the Faridpur Deputy Commissioner’s conference room.
According to the minister, some dishonest traders and retailers are deliberately claiming that fertilizer is unavailable and then selling it at higher prices. He warned that those involved in creating an artificial fertilizer shortage through market manipulation would face legal action.
Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid also warned fertilizer dealers that action would be taken against those who fail to collect their allocated fertilizer on time. He instructed dealers to ensure that farmers receive fertilizer at the correct price and within the required time.
The minister also emphasized reducing Bangladesh’s dependence on imported agricultural products. The government is working to increase domestic production of products such as jute and onion seeds. He said expanding local production is a key goal, while tackling an artificial fertilizer shortage remains important for protecting farmers.
The meeting also discussed increasing production of pulses, garlic, onions and jute seeds in Faridpur’s char areas, expanding native fish farming, growing vegetables and strengthening the Black Bengal goat development program.
