Maulana Mamunul Haque Warns Government Against Betraying the July Revolution

The Referendum Mandate Protest has entered a new phase as the 11-party alliance declared a week-long mass contact and leaflet distribution campaign. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday (April 7) at Al-Falah Auditorium in Moghbazar, Maulana Mamunul Haque, Amir of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish and a key leader of the alliance, accused the current government of mocking the public mandate. He stated that although 70% of the population voted in favor of the referendum, the government is resorting to “delaying tactics” and “deception” to avoid its implementation.

During the Referendum Mandate Protest announcement, Haque criticized the administration for deciding not to pass 20 critical ordinances formulated during the interim government’s tenure. “This is a betrayal of the aspirations of the July Revolution,” he remarked, suggesting that the government is attempting to bring back a one-party fascist rule. The alliance also highlighted the worsening fuel crisis and the misuse of the repealed ICT Act to harass political opponents as additional reasons for their upcoming movement.

Nationwide Schedule for Referendum Mandate Protest

The Referendum Mandate Protest will commence on April 9 at 5:00 PM with a mass contact program at Shahbagh, Dhaka. Following this, the alliance will hold protest rallies in all metropolitan cities on April 11 and at the district level on April 12. A national seminar is also scheduled for April 13 at the Institution of Diploma Engineers. Leaders like Professor Mia Golam Parwar, Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, were present to show solidarity with these demands.

The Referendum Mandate Protest aims to prevent the resurgence of fascism and ensure that the legal reforms promised to the people are realized. The alliance warns that public suffering due to energy mismanagement and deteriorating law and order will no longer be tolerated.
