Government to Launch Dedicated App for Fuel Sales to Curb Illegal Hoarding
In a move to modernize energy management, the Fuel App Purchase system will soon become mandatory for citizens. Speaking to journalists at the Information Department in the Secretariat on Tuesday (April 7), Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman explained that the app will record details of every transaction, including when and how much fuel an individual buys. This digital footprint is expected to bring transparency to the market and prevent the illegal stockpiling and smuggling of fuel products that have recently caused artificial shortages.
Addressing the global energy challenges, Dr. Zahed noted that despite rising international prices, the Bangladesh government has yet to increase fuel rates. However, a price adjustment might be considered next month depending on the situation. Regarding the Fuel App Purchase, he clarified that while there is some supply pressure due to global factors, the long queues at stations are primarily driven by illegal hoarding. “The crisis isn’t as severe as the lines suggest; it’s the lack of proper management which this app will solve,” he added.
Regulating Auto-Rickshaws to Save Electricity
Beyond the Fuel App Purchase announcement, the Advisor also touched upon the issue of unregulated auto-rickshaws. He stated that while there is no major electricity shortage, the uncontrolled operation of these vehicles poses safety risks due to poor fitness and untrained drivers. The government is currently looking for safer alternatives to these risky vehicles to reduce accidents and optimize power consumption.
