Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced that he will officially inaugurate the experimental distribution of the Farmer Card on the occasion of Pohela Boishakh 1433, falling on April 14. The Prime Minister made this disclosure on Monday (March 30) morning at Shaphla Hall in the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon during the inauguration ceremony of the Sports Card and allowance distribution program.
Implementation of Government Promises
During his speech, the Prime Minister stated that the Farmer Card distribution program is set to commence on April 14 as part of the government’s continuous efforts to improve the living standards of the people. He noted that the government is systematically fulfilling every promise made to the nation, and the launch of the ‘Sports Card’ today is a reflection of that ongoing commitment. Currently, information is being collected from all categories of farmers at a pre-pilot stage.
Pilot Locations and Target Groups
The Farmer Card will initially be distributed across nine blocks in nine upazilas within eight divisions of the country. The selected upazilas include Tangail Sadar, Shibganj in Bogura, Panchagarh Sadar, Islampur in Jamalpur, Shailkupa in Jhenaidah, Nesarabad in Pirojpur, Juri in Moulvibazar, Cumilla Sadar, and Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar. Under this initiative, landless, marginal, and small-scale farmers will receive an average subsidy or agricultural input assistance of 2,500 BDT.
Ministry Oversight and Financial Grants
The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), under the Ministry of Agriculture, will implement the program. In addition to general assistance, the government will provide financial grants at fixed rates to specific categories of farmers during the Kharif-1 and Kharif-2 seasons. On Sunday (March 29), a review meeting was held to expedite the Farmer Card project, presided over by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He directed officials to ensure total transparency and guarantee that services reach the actual farmers accurately.
