Deep Strike: Ashdod Targeted Amid Diplomatic Maneuvers

Early Friday morning (April 10, 2026), Hezbollah fired a missile toward the southern port city of Ashdod, marking one of its deepest strikes since the escalation began. Although the missile was intercepted, falling debris triggered sirens across the Tel Aviv metropolitan area. This Hezbollah-Israel Conflict escalation occurred just hours after Prime Minister Netanyahu announced potential peace negotiations in Washington. The IDF’s Home Front Command utilized a new early warning system, providing residents with two minutes of lead time before the impact. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this overnight attack.

Meanwhile, the ground war continues to rage in southern Lebanon. In the town of Bint Jbeil, Hezbollah fighters engaged in close-quarters combat with advancing Israeli troops using RPGs and light weaponry. IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir visited the outskirts of the town on Thursday, approving new battle plans to clear Hezbollah’s infrastructure. The military confirmed that the Israeli Air Force successfully destroyed 10 rocket launchers in Lebanon that were actively being used to target northern Israel, maintaining that the objective remains the safe return of residents to the north.

The Road to Washington vs. Battleground Reality

The Hezbollah-Israel Conflict remains volatile despite the “Washington Track” for diplomacy. Negotiations are expected to involve US Ambassador Michel Issa and Israel’s Yechiel Leiter, but Lebanon has yet to appoint its lead negotiator. Tensions were further inflamed following the IDF’s reported killing of Ali Yusuf Harshi, an aide and nephew of Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem. As both sides gear up for a high-stakes diplomatic summit next week, the heavy exchanges of fire in Ashdod and Bint Jbeil underscore the difficulty of reaching a sustainable truce.
