বাংলাBangladesh fast bowler Hasan Mahmud has made an impressive start to his County Championship career. However, Kent will not have him for the final two matches of the tournament after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided to bring him home for preparations for the Asian Games.
Hasan had been granted a no-objection certificate to play the remaining matches for Kent, but the BCB later changed its decision. Hasan Mahmud will therefore miss Kent’s final two County Championship matches.
Kent cricket director Simon Cook said in a statement that losing Hasan for the final matches was disappointing. However, he said the club respected the BCB’s decision following constructive discussions and wished the bowler well. He also acknowledged that Hasan’s absence would be a significant loss for the team.
Kent will rely on their other two overseas fast bowlers, Keith Dudgeon and Khaled Ahmed, for the final two matches. Khaled has already made a positive start, taking three wickets in his first match for the club.
Hasan has taken 26 wickets in four County Championship matches for Kent. The team lost only the most recent match in which he played. He also claimed four wickets in three T20 Blast appearances. Overall, the 26-year-old fast bowler has taken 30 wickets in seven matches across the two competitions.
Kent thanked Hasan for his contribution and said he would always be welcomed back at the club. Thus, while Hasan Mahmud will be missed, Kent has expressed its best wishes for the Bangladesh international.
BCB cricket operations in-charge Shahriar Nafees explained that Bangladesh have a busy schedule ahead, including the Asian Games, where Hasan is expected to play. Considering his workload, the board felt he needed some rest at home and time to work on his fitness and bowling.
