বাংলাBangladesh finally secured their first victory at the Asian Games after suffering two consecutive defeats. The Bangladesh hockey team defeated Sri Lanka 5-1 in their Pool A match.
Playing at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium in Japan, Bangladesh hockey dominated from the beginning. Amirul Islam opened the scoring in the eighth minute of the first quarter.
Ashraful Islam doubled Bangladesh’s lead early in the second quarter. Sri Lanka pulled one goal back through Kushal two minutes later, but Amirul scored again in the 27th minute to restore Bangladesh’s two-goal advantage.
Mahbub Hossain made it 4-1 near the end of the third quarter. Ashraful then scored his second goal in the 64th minute to complete Bangladesh’s 5-1 victory.
The result gave Bangladesh hockey their first three points of the tournament. Bangladesh had previously lost 5-0 to South Korea and 6-1 to Japan.
The Bangladesh hockey team will face Indonesia on September 26 before playing their final Pool A match against India on September 28.
