বাংলাHost nation Japan won the first gold medal of the Asian Games, with swimmer Pan securing the title in the opening swimming event in Aichi-Nagoya.
China quickly established its dominance in the pool, winning two gold medals. Rising teenage swimmer Yu Zidi played a major role in the success.
Yu Zidi won the women’s 200m butterfly title while setting a new Games record. She broke the previous record held by fellow Chinese swimmer Zhang Yufei.
Olympic champion Pan Zhanle also claimed gold for China in the men’s 100m freestyle, finishing in 47.61 seconds. He had also won the same event at the Hangzhou Asian Games three years ago.
Speaking about Asian Games swimming, Japan’s Pan said he was slightly behind his expectations but was pleased to win. He described the result as his best performance in the past two years.
Pan added that he wants to improve step by step and believes he can swim faster in the future.
