  • 🛢️ Fuel Rationing for Public Transport to Be Lifted

✍️ Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam has announced that the fuel rationing system imposed on public transport will be withdrawn amid the ongoing fuel supply challenges.

    ## Public Transport to Receive Adequate Fuel

Speaking in Gulistan, Dhaka on Saturday (March 14), the minister said that public transport and long-distance buses will no longer face fuel supply limits.

“From tonight (Saturday), the fuel rationing system for long-distance and public transport will no longer remain in place. Buses will receive sufficient fuel,” he said.

The rationing system had been introduced earlier to manage fuel consumption during the energy supply uncertainty triggered by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East involving Iran, Israel and the United States.

On March 6, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) set limits on fuel supply at filling stations as part of fuel conservation measures.

According to the previous directive, motorcycles were allowed to purchase only 2 liters of petrol or octane per day.

Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and microbuses were permitted to receive between 20 to 25 liters daily, while pickup trucks and local buses were allowed to take 70 to 80 liters of diesel.

Long-distance buses, trucks, covered vans and container trucks were permitted to collect 200 to 220 liters of fuel per day.

Although the restriction for public transport has now been lifted, the government has not yet announced any changes regarding fuel supply limits for private vehicles.
