বাংলাThe Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) has expressed deep concern and strong condemnation over allegations that journalist Kamaruzzaman Bablu was lured to the Postogola area of the capital, held at gunpoint, threatened with death and had money taken from his bank and mobile financial service accounts.
In a statement on Tuesday (October 6), DRU President Abu Saleh Akon and General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel, on behalf of the executive committee, condemned the incident involving journalist Kamaruzzaman Bablu.
According to the statement, the allegations involve deliberately luring a journalist into a trap, abducting him, holding him at gunpoint, taking him to an unknown location and threatening his life. The DRU said such allegations raise serious concerns about the safety of journalists and their ability to perform professional duties freely.
According to journalist Kamaruzzaman Bablu, he was invited to meet someone after making contact through Facebook. He alleged that he was subsequently held at gunpoint, restrained and taken to an unknown location, where he was threatened. He also alleged that money was taken using his bank card and mobile financial services.
The DRU has called for a prompt and impartial investigation into the allegations involving journalist Kamaruzzaman Bablu. The organisation also urged the authorities to identify and arrest those responsible and take legal action against them.
The DRU called for bank transaction records, ATM booth information, mobile financial service transactions, relevant mobile numbers and IMEI information to be examined as part of the investigation.
The organisation also expressed solidarity with journalist Kamaruzzaman Bablu and urged the relevant law enforcement agencies to ensure his safety and that of his family.
